Draft, then publish: change the week first, tell everyone once

Publish schedule changes, above the Schedule grid, is Right away or Draft, then publish. With drafts, changes to shifts more than 48 hours away wait, dashed and marked Draft, until you tap Publish; then each professional gets one summary instead of a message per edit.

Where it is. Scheduling & Coverage → Schedule, just above the grid: Publish schedule changes, with two choices. Right away is how every home starts, and how the schedule has always worked: a change is saved and the professionals on it are told at once. Draft, then publish lets you rework next week without sending a message for every half-finished edit. Switching it is recorded with who and when. Switching back to Right away keeps any drafts waiting; publish or discard them.

What waits as a draft. With Draft, then publish on, a change you make to shifts that start more than 48 hours from now is kept as a draft: adding a shift, changing one from a date (the times, the days, who works it) and removing one from a day. A draft is not on the schedule yet. The professional doesn't see it on My shifts, gets no notice and no phone notification, and can't clock into it; it never touches time, pay or visit records. On the grid a draft is drawn with a dashed outline and a Draft chip; a shift you are removing still shows, marked Draft · removing, because it is still on the schedule until you publish. Tap a draft to see what it does and discard it. A shift that already has a change waiting can't get a second one; publish or discard the first. An open one-day shift you draft keeps its Who fills this choice (You choose or First to claim gets it); nobody can raise a hand for it or claim it until it is published, and then the choice applies.

What is always right away, even with drafts on: anything that touches the next 48 hours or starts today, the open shift made to cover hours a professional can no longer work (Change my hours → Find coverage), Offer to … and a professional's answer, an open shift being taken, Remove it now, dragging a shift on the Calendar tab, and anything a professional does themselves.

The bar and Review. While anything is waiting, a bar stays at the bottom of the Schedule: 4 unpublished changes · Review · Publish. Review lists each change in plain words, Added, Changed or Removed, with the days and times, who, and who drafted it and when, and a Discard button on each. Discarding changes nothing on the schedule and tells nobody.

Publish. Publish puts every waiting change on the schedule at once, oldest first, with every rule checked again: the medication checks, a required credential that has become overdue, a professional's calendar, a shift that has ended since. Then each professional whose shifts changed gets one summary on My shifts, for example: Your schedule for Oct 26 – Nov 1 changed: You're on Sat 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM from Sat, Oct 31. Your Mon–Fri shift changes from Mon, Oct 26 …, and one phone notification if they have them on. A change that can't be put on the schedule any more stays a draft with the reason in Review.

An agency. If an agency manages your home's weekly schedule, the same setting applies to its changes made on its own Schedule. The agency publishes its own drafts and never yours, and you don't see its drafts until it publishes them; then they are ordinary changes on your schedule. An agency that sends you changes to approve keeps doing exactly that.
