Out of medication and running low: log it, follow it, refill it

When a dose can't be given because the medication ran out, log it as Out of medication from the dose-due pop-up or the dose chips; the app counts the days and the doses missed until the refill, and anyone who manages the medications, the professionals on the care team included, can flag Running low before it runs out.

Out of medication — not given is an answer for a dose, beside Given, Skipped and Refused. Use it when a dose was due and could not be given because there was none in the house. It closes that dose, so nobody is asked about it again, and it counts as not taken everywhere doses are counted: today's log, the Medications report (where Out of medication has its own count), the dose grid, the doctor summary and the daily note. It is never counted as given.

Logging it from the dose-due pop-up. With one medication due, the pop-up's button names it, for example Out of Lisinopril, and one tap logs it. With several due, tap Out of a medication: it asks Which one is out?; tick each one that is out and tap Log as out — not given. The others stay in the pop-up, and Given now then covers them. Not all of them also offers Out of medication as a fourth answer beside Given, Skipped and Refused for each one. The line at the top then says, for example, Logged: Lisinopril out — not given at 8 AM. The family has been told. It works the same for the professional on shift, from the banner's Open, and when nobody is clocked in.

Logging it from the dose chips. On Prescriptions, open the medication and tap the dose chip for that time, then Out of medication. The professional on the care team does the same on the dashboard's Medications tab.

The streak. From the first dose logged out, the medication stays out until a dose is logged as given, a refill is logged, or someone taps Refill picked up. While it is out, its badge says how long, for example Out since Oct 12 · 2 days · 3 doses missed, on Prescriptions, under its name in the pop-up, and at the top of Medications today. The pop-up offers Still out of Lisinopril as the first answer for it, so every dose missed while it is out is recorded with one tap.

Running low, before it runs out. Open the medication and tap Running low. The line says Flagged as running low. The family and the care team have been told, and the chip then reads, for example, Running low · flagged by Sam, Oct 12. Every login that manages the medications has the button: the account owner and caregiver-role accounts on Prescriptions, and the professionals and clinicians on the care team on the dashboard's Medications tab. When the medication's pills are counted under On hand, the count flags Running low by itself when the days left reach the warning (see On hand).

Needs a refill. Every medication that is out or running low is listed together at the top of Prescriptions under Needs a refill, with how long it has been out or how many days are left, and at the top of Medications today on the patient's Day page, the Status Board and a professional's Checklist tab. Once it is flagged or out, Refill requested marks that someone asked the pharmacy for it; it only records that, it sends nothing to the pharmacy. Refill picked up clears the flag or the streak, adds the refill to the Refills log, and asks Add 60 to on hand? (the quantity dispensed), ticked to start. Log a refill under the medication's Refills log clears it too.

Who is told. The first dose logged out, and a Running low flag, reach the family members who manage the account (the owner and caregiver-role accounts) and the care team at once: a phone notification that never names the medicine, and an email for anyone who has no notifications on; the care team hears through each person's own Alerts setting. While a medication stays out, one reminder a day from 9 AM on the patient's clock names it and the count, for example Sample has been out of Lisinopril for 3 days (4 doses missed); from the third day it says so as urgent. Logging a dose given or the refill ends the reminders. Family-tier members and friends never see any of it.

  6. 6When the refill is in the house, tap Refill picked up and keep Add to on hand ticked.
