The app talks about the patient everywhere: the menu (Debbie's Day, Debbie's care), page headings, the clinicians' dashboard (Review her health information), the welcome emails and the texts to the circle. The rule is name first: wherever a name fits, the app uses the patient's first name (or the preferred name), never a pronoun.
Where a sentence still needs a pronoun, a setting decides which one. On the Patient Profile page (Patient Info tab), under Identity, next to Gender, the field How should the app refer to (name)? offers: Not set (follow Gender), she/her, he/him, they/them, and Just the name. It saves like every other profile field, on this device and to the account, and every page, email and text picks it up.
Not set follows the Gender field: Female reads as she/her, Male as he/him, and anything else (Nonbinary, Prefer not to say, or blank) as they/them. The app never assumes. Choosing she/her, he/him or they/them uses that set regardless of Gender. Choosing Just the name puts the name in every place a pronoun would go (Debbie is home, give Debbie time, Debbie's chair); the one exception is the reflexive, where a name cannot go, which reads themselves.
A line beneath the field shows an example in the words the app will use, so you can see the effect before leaving the page. Until a name is typed, the app says they/them; once the name is there, the name leads.
Step by step
- 1Open Profile (the Patient Profile), then the Patient Info tab, and find the Identity card.
- 2Beside Gender, find How should the app refer to (name)?
- 3Choose she/her, he/him, they/them or Just the name; leave it Not set to follow Gender.
- 4Read the example line under the field, then carry on: it is saved.
