Time zones: the patient's clock and yours

The app keeps two clocks: the patient's time zone, where she lives, which runs medication times, reminders and the daily messages; and your own, which only changes how times look to you, including when you travel.

The patient's time zone is where the patient lives. There is one for the whole circle, and everything that happens at her home follows it: when a medication is due and when the dose-due pop-up and the phone reminder come, which day a dose, a symptom, a nap, a meal or a shift belongs to, when the daily note is written, which of the daily messages is due, what tomorrow means for an appointment reminder, the days in Health reports and the week in the doctor's summary. Until someone chooses one, the app uses US Eastern time.

To set it, the person who runs the account or anyone with the caregiver role opens Settings and the Time zones tab (a caregiver-role account finds it in Profile & Settings). The common US zones come first: Eastern, Central, Mountain, Arizona, Pacific, Alaska and Hawaii; Other… lists every zone. The card says what time it is there right now. Before it changes, it asks you to confirm, because medication times, reminders and the daily messages follow the new zone. Clock times you saved stay the same clock times: a 7:00 PM dose stays 7:00 PM, on the new zone's clock. Everyone else can see the patient's zone but cannot change it; the app refuses the change for them.

Your own clock is Show times in, on the same page. It is yours alone and changes nothing for anyone else. The patient's time is the default: every time reads on her clock. My time zone (automatic) follows the device you are using, so when you travel with your phone the times follow you. Pick a time zone fixes one zone whatever device you use. Care-team and Home Team logins find Show times in on the My profile tab of the care dashboard, and organization members on My account in the organization panel.

When your clock is not the patient's, the times that matter show both, like 7:00 PM Rosa's time · 4:00 PM your time: the dose-due pop-up and the dose log, appointments and Her Schedule, the care-team feed's activity times and shift times. Other times show your clock with a short zone label, like 4:00 PM PT. Emails about appointments use the zone you chose in Show times in, or the patient's zone when you left it on her time, always with the zone label, like 9:00 AM ET. The daily note in the feed writes an appointment's time on the patient's clock with its label.

Travelling is simple: leave the patient's time zone alone, since she has not moved, and choose My time zone (automatic) for yourself. If you are the one who moved for good and she has too, change the patient's time zone. Some time pickers, like Given earlier in the dose-due pop-up and the date and time fields in Health Tracking, still read the device's own clock; the pop-up says so when the device is not on the patient's time.
