The Phrase Library has one category for ALS and Parkinson's: ALS & Parkinson's. It holds short, first-person phrases for a person whose speech muscles are weakening. It covers needs right now (the bathroom, I can't breathe, I'm choking, please reposition me, I need suction), breathing support (please put on my BiPAP, take off my mask, the mask is leaking, I need my cough assist), moving and the body (my legs are stiff, I'm freezing and can't move my feet, help me stand, I'm going to fall, my hands are shaking, cramps), medicine timing (it's time for my medicine, my medicine is wearing off, I'm on now, I'm off now — the plain on and off words many people with Parkinson's use), eating and swallowing, talking and the voice, equipment (the wheelchair, eye-gaze, the call button, the phone, the glasses), decisions and planning (I want to talk about my care plan, I want to decide this myself, I need more time, please ask me, not my family), feelings and people, and yes, no and quick answers.
Talking and my voice includes Please use my voice and I want to bank my voice: the cloned voice is set up in Settings from a short recording, best made while speaking is still comfortable.
Choose ALS and Parkinson's in the guided setup and this category opens first in the Phrase Library. The Communicate page then shows an ALS & Parkinson's phrases section just under What you want to say, with four columns: needs right now, breathing support, moving, and yes and no (three at a time in calm mode). Every other mode can still open the category from the library.
The phrases are the person's own words and questions, never medical advice. The app does not change a machine or a medicine: it speaks the words out loud for the people in the room. The most urgent phrases carry an Urgent tag.
