What it is. Contribution before overhead: what each client's collected revenue leaves after the hours paid to professionals on that client. It is not profit: office labor, mileage, insurance, software and taxes are not in it. That line sits on the tab, and nothing on the tab is called profit, margin or profitability.
Who sees it. Contribution is the last tab of Billing in your agency's workspace, for the same people as Billing: your Organization admins and your office. A nurse supervisor or a professional does not see it. Nothing about a client's health is on it: a client is a first name and a city, a shift is a day and hours, an invoice is a number and an amount.
The period. The same start and end dates as Ready to bill: it opens on the pay week that last closed, Monday to Sunday; Last pay week returns there, −60 days reaches back sixty days, and a period is 62 days at most. Collected is counted by the day the money came in; direct labor by the day each shift was worked.
Collected. Every payment received in those days, allocated to the client and the payer of the invoice it paid: what your office recorded with Receive payment, a payer's payment, and what a family recorded as paid in its own app. A family's share of cost counts under the payer the service was billed to, so the client's row for that payer carries both. A payer's write-off is not money received and is not collected.
Direct labor. Every closed shift whose clock-in day falls in the period, in each client's home, priced the way the payroll export prices it: the hours times the pay rate on that professional's payroll line (the agency's own rate on Payroll export, never the family's invoice rate), or, for a professional paid per visit or per point, the amount of the visit type on the shift. ExpressAgain keeps no history of pay-rate changes, so the rate on the payroll line today prices every hour in the period; the tab says so. A shift whose professional has no pay rate, or a per-visit shift with no visit type, is counted as hours with no pay rate and said on the row, never priced at zero in silence. Mileage is left out because nothing in ExpressAgain records miles on a shift.
Contribution. Collected minus direct labor, per row and in total, with its share of collected beside it. A negative contribution shows in red; a row with nothing collected shows a dash for the share.
Billed, not collected. The balance still open on sent invoices for service in the period (the invoice's last day inside it). It is shown apart on each row and in the facts, and it is never inside contribution.
Not allocated. A payment whose invoice or client is no longer one of your agency's homes, or a shift in a home that is not one of your clients, goes in a Not allocated row at the foot of the table and in the totals. It is shown, never dropped.
The roll-ups. By payer adds up the rows under each payer: Private pay, Medicaid waiver, Medicaid managed care, Medicare, VA or Long-term care insurance. By service type adds up each shift's visit type, or the service types its invoice line names when it carries no visit type; a payment is split across its invoice's lines in proportion to their amounts, and a payment on an invoice with no visit lines counts as Other charges. By branch appears only when the app ties your clients to a branch; today your offices on Setup are not tied to client homes or shifts, so the tab says there is no branch roll-up. Each roll-up is closed until you open it.
The CSV. One row per client and payer, the Not allocated row when there is one, then Total: client, payer, the period, collected, direct labor, hours, hours with no pay rate, contribution, its share of collected and billed not collected. Every download is written to your agency's billing trail and to the organization's audit, like the payroll export's downloads, and the tab reads Downloaded on the day by the person who did it.
On a phone. Each row is a card with the same numbers; the table appears on a wide screen, and every column header sorts.
Step by step
- 1Open Billing in the left menu of your agency's workspace and tap Contribution.

- 3Read the four facts and the table: collected, direct labor, contribution and its share, and billed not collected, by client and payer.
- 4Open By payer and By service type for the roll-ups, and What is counted for what is left out.
- 5Tap CSV to save the file; the download is recorded and the tab says who downloaded it and when.
