ExpressAgainThe Phrase Library has two categories for the hospital bed: ICU & Breathing Tube and After Surgery. They are short, first-person phrases to tap when a tube or fresh surgery has taken the voice away. ICU & Breathing Tube covers breathing and the tube (I can't breathe, please suction me, when does the tube come out?), calling the nurse and alarms, a pain scale from 0 to 10 and where it hurts, yes, no and quick answers, comfort and position, what's happening, confusion and sleep, family, how to talk with me, and everyday things like water, ice chips, glasses, the light and the TV. After Surgery covers the stomach, the incision and drain, the bathroom and catheter, pain medicine and getting up.
Choose ICU and Ventilated in the guided setup and these two categories open first in the Phrase Library. The Communicate page then shows an ICU phrases section just under What you want to say, with four columns: breathing, my nurse, pain, and yes and no (three at a time in calm mode). Every other mode can still open both categories from the library.
The phrases are the patient's own words and questions, never medical advice. The app does not call the nurse or ring an alarm: it speaks the words out loud for the people in the room. The most urgent phrases carry an Urgent tag.
