How open shifts get filled in a client's home: your agency's default

Where a family lets your agency manage its weekly schedule, an administrator can set the home's default (You choose or First to claim gets it); where the family kept the schedule, the family's setting rules and your office puts its people forward.

Each home has one setting for open shifts on one day: You choose (people raise a hand and someone picks) or First to claim gets it (the first qualified professional to claim has it). The family sets it for their home.

Where the family lets your agency manage the weekly schedule, an administrator of your agency can set your own default for that home: open the client, then Weekly schedule, then How open shifts get filled. It applies until the family takes the schedule back, and every change is recorded with who and when. In You choose there, your office chooses too: on the client's Open shifts, Cover with one of my staff puts one of your people on it.

Where the family kept the weekly schedule, its own setting always rules and your agency can't change it. On a shift where the family chooses, Put forward one of my professionals adds that person to the family's list; the family gives it. On a First to claim shift, Cover with one of my staff puts them on it at once, with the same checks as everyone: the Home Care Team, Ready to work, the medication permission, no overlapping shift.

Your office is told when one of your people claims an open shift or is given one, by phone notification with fixed words (the first name only).

Step by step

  1. 1Open the client, then Weekly schedule.
  2. 2Under How open shifts get filled, pick your default (administrators, where the family lets you manage the schedule).
  3. 3On the client's Open shifts, cover a shift with one of your people or put one forward.
