Before the first shift. Picking up an open shift, accepting a shift the family offered and the first Clock in in a home all wait until the required steps of Getting started are done: the same rule as Ready for first shift on your own Getting started tab (every required step that applies to you, across the seven stages), or I'm ready to work already tapped. Until then the answer says, in plain words, which stages are left and how many steps in each, for example Finish Getting started before your first shift. Left: Know Your Client (2 steps) and First Shift Training & Readiness (1 step), with an Open Getting started button that lands on the first step left. Open shifts shows the same line at the top of the board; the board itself stays readable. A step that waits on the family or a review is said separately and never counts against you.
Who is not gated. Anyone already working in a home when the rule arrived: a professional whose first shift there (clocked or typed in) was before October 22, 2026 is never held back by it. The rule is not retroactive. An agency office that picks up a shift for one of its staff gets the same answer about that person, by name, with stage names and counts only.
What the family sees. On My Care Team each professional's card and row carry one line: Trained with the date every required step was first met, or Not yet trained with how many stages and steps remain (for example Not yet trained · 2 stages, 3 steps left), with the stage names behind a tap. The same line sits on the person's first steps under Who can sign in on the Care Team page and on the profile's Getting started tab. It never shows a private answer, a signed document or an upload, only names and counts. Steps that are not required never hold the gate; a Trained line says when optional steps are still open. An agency office sees the same line for each of its professionals, per home, on its roster.
Your first shift with the patient. The first time you clock in with a patient (no shift completed in that home before), the Checklist tab opens with a short list drawn from the patient's own plan where it exists: read the care targets and instructions; log everything, as it happens, with the exact lines from Your job: care for the patient and log everything and the glucose times when the family set them; check the medications due this shift; the tasks the family trained you on, when any were delegated; where things are; read the Emergency Plan Card; how to log by voice with Willie E.A. (tap Log it, say what happened, check the card, tap Log it); and how to end the shift. Every row has one button that opens the real place. Ticking a row is a reminder for you — it is kept on that shift and is never shown to the family as verified.
The end-of-shift summary, two taps. Tap Clock out under Your shift: a short summary appears, prefilled from what was logged under your name during the shift — readings and vitals, doses, care given, notes — with anything still missing on the day record (you can still clock out; the shift is flagged for the family's review, and hours are always paid) and an optional note, typed or dictated with Say it instead of typing (your words become text on your phone; nothing is recorded or sent anywhere). Confirm and clock out is the first tap: the note is kept on the shift. Send to the family is the second: one line on the care-team feed, Shift summary from Jewel · 4.5 hours, with what was logged and your note behind a tap, and a phone notification with fixed words. Done without sending keeps everything on the shift and sends nothing. Clocking out from My shifts shows the same Send to the family afterwards. Nothing about the shift is emailed or texted.
Step by step
- 1Finish the required steps on Getting started (under Paperwork). When Ready for first shift shows, open shifts, shift offers and Clock in open on their own.
- 2On your first shift with a patient, open Today, then Checklist: work down Your first shift with the patient, tapping each button to open the real place, and tick each row for yourself.
- 3Log as you go, by voice with Willie E.A. or by typing. At the end, tap Clock out: read the summary, add a note if you like, tap Confirm and clock out.
- 4Tap Send to the family, or Done without sending.
