Which registry. The License card on the team file reads the professional's credential and says where to look: a nurse (RN, LPN, LVN, APRN) on Nursys or the state board of nursing; a physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant or therapist on the NPI registry and then the state board; a nurse aide (CNA, HHA) on the state's nurse aide registry. When no licensed role is named, the card says so and asks for the credential to be set on the team list.
Look up NPI. Tap Look up NPI, check the first and last name (filled from the team list) and, if you like, the state, then tap Search the registry. ExpressAgain asks the free NPPES NPI Registry and lists up to ten people with the name as the registry has it, the NPI, the primary taxonomy (for example Nurse Practitioner, Family), the state and license number the taxonomy carries, and the city. Tap Keep this match on the right one: the row reads Registry match with the NPI, the name and the taxonomy, the day of the lookup and who kept it, and the professional's NPI on the team list is filled when it was empty. A registry match is a match, not a license check: the registry says a person with that name holds that NPI; the state board or Nursys says whether the license is active.
Record a lookup. Tap Record a lookup: the day you checked, how (State registry lookup, Nursys lookup, or License or card seen), the state, the license number, an expiry and a short note, then Save. A state registry or Nursys lookup reads Checked on the state registry or Checked on Nursys, with Recorded by the office or Nursys, the date and who recorded it. The card seen reads License or card seen. Take back removes a record made by mistake (it is kept, marked removed). Nothing here is the board's report; it is the office's own record of what it looked up and when.
Nursys. For RN, LPN and APRN licenses, Nursys (the boards of nursing, run by NCSBN) offers QuickConfirm for a one-off lookup and Nursys e-Notify for institutions, a free list that sends license status updates. NCSBN publishes no public developer documentation for e-Notify's API, so ExpressAgain does not call Nursys: the card lists the steps (create an institution account, enroll each nurse by license number, type and state or upload a file, receive the updates, record the lookup here) and reads Waiting on the agency's Nursys e-Notify account. If keys are ever set for it, the card says the lookup stays a manual step until the account's API terms are confirmed.
The family's side. In each client home where the professional works through the agency, a state registry or Nursys lookup the office recorded reads Checked on the family's credential row and on Ready to work, with the date and the agency named; an NPI match is shown as NPI registry match with the date and never counts as the registry check. The family's own Record a check on the professional's Documents tab is unchanged.
The words. ExpressAgain never looks anything up on its own authority and never says a license is good: the office records, the registry answers a match, and every row says which. No report is kept.
Step by step
- 1Open Team, then the professional's team file, and find the License card under Documents.
- 2Tap Look up NPI, check the name and state, tap Search the registry, and tap Keep this match on the right person.
- 3Tap Record a lookup after a state board or Nursys lookup: the day, how, the state, the number, and Save.
- 4For a nurse, open Nursys (RN, LPN, APRN) on the card for the e-Notify steps and the QuickConfirm link.
- 5Read the row: the source (Recorded by the office, Nursys, NPI registry) and the date, and Take back a record made by mistake.
