Supporting your professionals

Home care is hard work. Recognize good work, keep schedules steady, avoid split shifts, respect breaks, and let your professionals bring what they love to the job.

The people who care for your loved one at home carry a lot. When they are rested and respected, the care is better and they stay. A few habits make the biggest difference.

Recognize good work. Say thank you for something specific, in person or on the team feed: the extra patience at bath time, the meal they made, the note that helped the nurse.

Keep schedules steady. The same days and hours each week let a professional plan their own life. Post changes early, and use the weekly schedule rather than last-minute asks.

Avoid split shifts. Two short shifts with an unpaid gap in the middle make a long, tiring day. Where you can, make it one shift.

Respect breaks. Lunch and rest breaks are on the clock in ExpressAgain (Start lunch, Start a break and Back from break on the professional's My shifts). Make sure there is a safe moment to take them, and a place to sit.

Let them bring what they love. Each professional can list what they love, like cooking, music or gardening, and a line about it, on their Wellbeing page. When they do, it shows on their card in My Care Team (a heart and, for example, Loves cooking and music) and on their profile under About. A professional who loves to cook might plan a meal with your loved one; one who loves music might bring a favorite song. Ask them.

Professionals have their own Wellbeing page (Settings → Wellbeing on their dashboard) with a private check-in, short resets, ways to protect their time and who to call. Their check-ins are private to them: you never see them, and ExpressAgain does not report them to families or agencies. If a professional wants to tell you something, they send it privately, the same way as I can't make it.

For agencies: on your organization's Settings, Support line for your team lists your employee assistance program or another support line (a name, a phone number and a short note). Your professionals see it on their Wellbeing page under Talk to someone. Only the organization admin can change it, and nothing about who calls is ever shared.

Step by step

  1. 1Family: open HCT Management, then My Care Team, and read each card's What I love line (when the professional filled it in).
  2. 2Open a professional's profile: what they love shows under About.
  3. 3Say thank you for something specific on the team feed or in person.
  4. 4Check the weekly schedule for split shifts and last-minute changes.
  5. 5Agency: open Settings, find Support line for your team, add the name and phone number, and tap Save support line.
