Appointments: the doctor, the dentist, therapy, labs — and how she gets there

Book a clinical visit under the ID Care Plan with where to go, what to bring, who is driving and who goes along; it is on her Schedule and the care dashboard the moment it saves.

3 min readUpdated For: family, clinician, professional

Appointments (under ID Care Plan, after Prescriptions) is where the family books and keeps every clinical visit: doctor, specialist, dentist, therapy, lab or imaging, infusion or chemo, a clinician's home visit, telehealth. Each card shows who the visit is with, when, where (tap the address for directions), the office phone, the reason, what to bring or prepare (fasting, the medication list, questions), the ride (who is driving, a wheelchair van or medical transport, the pickup time) and who is going along. After the visit, the family writes what happened and when the next one is; past visits fold under Coming up.

Her Schedule and her appointments are two different things, and the app keeps them that way without typing anything twice. An appointment is one entry: booking it here puts it on her Schedule the moment it saves, with its badge, what to bring and the ride, and Open in Appointments leads back to the card. Her Schedule stays the whole life — the dentist, the nails, the car, family visits and the home team's shifts — with filters for All, Appointments, Home team and Family. Nothing can overlap: a time already held is refused with what holds it.

The home team professional sees the same appointments on the care dashboard's Today door, Schedule tab: what to bring, the ride and who is going, read-only. A care login can book only its own therapy time there, so it cannot add notes to an appointment; the family updates the card.

A visit that came from the chart (Epic or eClinicalWorks through Doctor's Records, or a hospital feed) shows where it came from; who, when and where stay as the practice set them, and the family adds the ride, who goes, what to bring and what happened. The day before every appointment the family gets an email: Tomorrow, doctor with Dr. Name at 9:00 AM, who is driving. On the Care Team page a contact's Next visit line reads from the booked appointment and opens it.

Owner and caregiver-role accounts book, change and cancel; a linked family member reads. Friends never land here.

Step by step
