Move shifts on the schedule

Drag a weekly shift to another day or time, onto another person, or copy it; the app checks for conflicts before anything is saved, and Undo takes it back for 10 seconds.

Shifts move on the calendar (see The calendar). The family moves them on Week at a glance in Home Team management, Weekly schedule, in its Week and Day views. An agency office moves its own professionals' shifts on the care-team dashboard: the Office door, Team · all clients, then the Calendar card: By worker, where each row is a person (one row across every home the office is in) and the week's hours run across, with the homes' open shifts in the last row; By client, where each row is a client home; and Week.

On a computer, press a shift and drag it to another day. In Week and Day, dragging it up or down makes it earlier or later in 15-minute steps, the shift keeps its length, and a dashed outline shows where it would land. In By worker, dragging it onto another person who works in that home reassigns it (onto the Open shifts row leaves it open); in By client a shift moves to another day of its own home only. Hold Alt (Option on a Mac) as you let go to copy the shift instead of moving it. A card under the pointer says where it would land and the first alert, and the day or person under it lights up: blue when it is clear, amber for a warning, red when it would be refused.

On a phone, hold a shift for a moment until it lifts, then drag it; moving your finger first scrolls the page as usual. On a phone the calendar's wide views scroll sideways inside their own box. Every drag has a tap way too: tap a shift to open its card, tap Move or Copy, then the day, the start and end times (15-minute steps) and the person, and tap Move or Copy. When a shift runs on several days, Every day of this shift moves all of them together, by the same number of days. With a keyboard, tab to a shift and press an arrow key to pick it up: left and right change the day, up and down change the time in Week and Day or the person in By worker; Enter drops it and Escape puts it back. Enter on a shift that is not picked up opens its card. The conflicts counter on the agency's calendar counts the same rule that stops a save: one person on two shifts at overlapping times.

The weekly schedule repeats, so a move applies every week from the week you are looking at, today at the earliest; past weeks keep what they had. Moving one day of a several-day shift (Monday of Monday to Friday) keeps the other days as they were and makes the moved day its own shift. Every move is written the way Change from a date writes, so Schedule history shows the change, who made it and the line it was made with, such as Moved Jewel's Mon 6:00 AM–2:00 PM to Tue 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, every week from Oct 12.

Before anything is saved, the move is checked. These stop the save: the same person booked twice at overlapping times, in any home you can see and across two logins the family marked as the same person (a shift that ends at 2:00 PM and one that starts at 2:00 PM do not overlap); a shift that gives medication going to someone the family marked Not allowed to give medication; and a new shift for someone whose required credential is overdue while the family's Block new shifts after the deadline is on. These warn, and Save anyway saves with one tap: the person going over 40 scheduled hours in that Monday to Sunday week (exactly 40 is not over; state daily overtime rules are not counted); a credential the home requires (the family's rule, or the agency's when it is stricter) missing, or expired or past its due date on the shift's date; two people on at once in one home that had one person on at that time; a move that leaves time in the home with nobody scheduled; under 8 hours between the end of one of the person's shifts and the start of the next (exactly 8 is fine; two shifts back to back in the same home count as one stretch); a medication shift going to someone not yet confirmed for medication administration; and a time outside the schedule blocks the person chose on their Marketplace profile. For those blocks the app reads weekday days as 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, evenings as 2:00 PM to midnight, overnights as 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM, weekend days and evenings the same hours on Saturday and Sunday, and 24/7 or live-in as any time; a person with no blocks on a profile is not checked.

After a move, the people on the shift are told the way the schedule already tells them: a line on My shifts (Your schedule changes from Mon, Oct 12: Mon 6:00 AM–2:00 PM moves to Tue 7:00 AM–3:00 PM) and a phone notification for anyone who turned those on; nothing is emailed or texted. A bar at the bottom shows Undo for 10 seconds; Undo puts the shift back exactly as it was, records that in Schedule history, and tells the people it was taken back.

For an agency, the family's rule holds: the family approves schedule changes unless it lets the agency manage the weekly schedule (the agency card on the family's Care Team page, Weekly schedule). When it does not, a move is sent to the family as a proposal with the same plain line, nothing in the home changes until the family taps Accept, and Undo within 10 seconds takes the proposal back. A home that is not linked to the agency organization has no way to ask the family, so the office links it first from Team. The office only moves its own professionals' shifts and the home's open slots, onto its own professionals; the person's other work shows only as busy time, with no times or details.

Step by step

  1. 1Family: open Home Team management, then Weekly schedule, and find Week at a glance (‹ and › pick the week; Week or Day).
  2. 2Drag a shift to another day, or up or down for another time; hold Alt or Option as you let go to copy it. On a phone, hold the shift first.
  3. 3Or tap the shift, tap Move or Copy on its card, pick the day, the times and the person, and tap Move.
  4. 4Read the alerts: a red line means it can't be saved; amber lines are warnings, and Save anyway saves it.
  5. 5Tap Undo on the bar at the bottom within 10 seconds to put it back.
  6. 6Agency office: on the care-team dashboard open the Office door, then Team · all clients, then the Calendar's By worker, and drag a shift onto another day or person.
